Why I built intelecho.
I’m Colin Gillingham. I’ve worked in tech for nearly 20 years, and I’m a lifelong technology tinkerer.
The idea came from a friend who manages real estate and doesn’t always speak the same languages as his tenants. Live interpreters can help, but bringing a human into every call can get expensive. I wondered whether AI could make those everyday conversations easier.
intelecho uses Twilio for the phone calls and OpenAI’s GPT-Live 1 model to translate speech on the fly. Two people speak their own languages on a live phone call, and each hears the other’s words translated. It supports 30 languages, including European and Brazilian Portuguese.
This is a proof of concept, and very much a demo. It’s by no means perfect. Give it a try, be patient with it, and leave a little room for the translation to catch up.
Thanks for trying it.— Colin
